The claim that can actually be checked
Almost all peptide marketing is written to be uncheckable. "May support." "Helps promote." "Part of a healthy lifestyle." You cannot falsify a hedge, which is the point of one.
Joi + Blokes does something different on its sermorelin page, and it deserves to be taken seriously for it. In the FAQ, under "What benefits should I expect to see (and when) from Sermorelin?", the answer walks month by month and lands here: "By month six, studies suggest potential 5-10% body fat reduction (without diet or exercise), a 10% increase in lean muscle mass, and improved overall vitality."
That is a real claim. It has two numbers, a timeframe, a stated mechanism of attribution — studies — and a parenthesis that removes the usual escape route by specifying that the change happens without diet or exercise. It can be checked. So it was.
As of August 2026, a PubMed search for sermorelin filtered to the randomised-controlled-trial publication type returns 19 records. The newest was published in 2005. 3 They are studies of growth hormone response to a challenge, of growth in children with growth hormone deficiency, of dose-response to a low-dose bolus, of what happens when you block the GHRH receptor. Not one of them reports a body-fat percentage. Not one reports a lean-mass change. Not one runs for six months in healthy adults, because that is not the question anyone was asking.
ClinicalTrials.gov gives the same answer from the registry side. Twenty-seven studies list sermorelin as an intervention. The two that come closest to the marketed use — NCT01410799, three months of GHRH in the elderly, and NCT00807365, the six-month version — are both phase 2 and both TERMINATED, having enrolled 13 and 5 participants respectively.
So the honest description of "studies suggest potential 5-10% body fat reduction" is that no study suggests it, because no study has looked. This site's editorial policy has a line about exactly this construction: "'Studies suggest', 'research shows', and 'experts agree' are not evidence — they are ways of avoiding a citation." What is unusual here is that the avoidance comes with a number attached, which makes it worse and easier to check at the same time.
None of this means sermorelin does nothing, and this review does not say it is unsafe. It is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue and it does stimulate pituitary GH release — that mechanism is well established, and it is why the drug existed as a diagnostic agent. The gap is between a mechanism and an outcome, and it is the whole gap.
